We were established in 1989 to link two types of expertise—academic and practical—for the benefit of communities in Indiana and elsewhere. Geospatial technologies, especially GIS, emerged as our preferred technical tools because of their unique ability to integrate and visualize information by location. This capacity and our collaborative approach mean that we can develop and analyze data for any geographic area and involve local exerts in helping to understand what the results mean for local communities. All of our projects use this approach to help communities build their capacity to use data and information for more effective decision making.
From the beginning, we have been entrepreneurial. We are funded solely by grants and contracts. It is this characteristic, in addition to our deep commitment to collaboration, partnerships, and the practical use of advanced technologies, that explains our unique and diverse range of projects.
