The Polis Center at IUPUI (Polis) is seeking an experienced candidate for a Senior Research Analyst to help design a broad range of applied community-based research projects and community needs assessment activities. They will interact with organizations and community groups to provide information and build community capacity to make positive change and will have a lead role in Polis planning and executing higher-level analyses and mentoring analyst staff.

Primary Responsibilities

This position will assist in the design and implementation of applied research and assessment projects and must be experienced at:

  • Collecting evaluating, managing, and analyzing data in both quantitative and qualitative formats
  • Identifying appropriate methodologies
  • Preparing statistical analyses
  • Creating data visualizations
  • Developing reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content both for public and academic audiences. This position is accountable for managing internal resources and working with external data providers and vendors as required to meet research and project objectives within a fat-paced, multi-project environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in a social science (geography, sociology, demography, etc.), urban planning, public health, or other fields related to the center’s work. PhD is preferred.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills required; qualitative skill highly desirable.
  • Experience in applied community research, assessment, or evaluation projects, program- and community-level outcome measurement, program evaluation, intervention effectiveness studies, community needs and assets assessments, and/or management analysis, and visualization of large administrative and survey datasets.
  • Knowledge of statistical and data visualization software. Knowledge of SQL and GIS is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the concept of social determinants of health. Experience in exploring the dynamic interaction among the socioeconomic, behavioral, clinical, policy, systems, occupational, and/or environmental determinants of health a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively.

This position will work with other staff analysts to insure they have the specific skills necessary to complete a project and will mentor graduate interns. This is a one-year position, with the potential for renewal based on funding. The position is available immediately and will remain open until it is filled.
