IndyVitals makes the news!

The National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (NNIP)–a collaborative effort by the Urban Institute and local partners to further the development and use of neighborhood information systems in local policymaking and community building–included a case study on SAVI and IndyVitals in a recent website post, Powering Community Participation in Planning for Indianapolis’ Future.

It was then picked up by GovLab, (the Governance Lab at New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering), which published the story on its site. GovLab’s mission is to improve lives by changing the way we govern. It believes that increased availability and use of data, new ways to leverage the capacity, intelligence, and expertise of people in the problem-solving process, combined with new advances in technology and science can transform governance. The IndyVitals tool is a perfect example how technology, expertise, and data can accomplish that transformation.

IndyVitals was developed by The Polis Center in partnership with the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and the City of Indianapolis’ Department of Metropolitan Development for Plan 2020, Indianapolis’ BiCentennial effort. It has proven to be useful for other community organizations as well in that it drills down to pretty specific information about 99 neighborhoods defined by Indianapolis and enables consistency in how information is measured.
