Melissa Long

GIS Analyst

Melissa is a part-time GIS Analyst for The Polis Center. Her responsibilities include running analysis and creating maps for countywide natural hazards for hazard mitigation plans and maps related to natural hazards and population data for the State of Indiana mitigation plan. She writes county hazard mitigation plans and assists in updating the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources watershed maps. Melissa earned a BA degree in anthropology and a GIS certificate from IUPUI and completes her Masters degree in Geographic  Information Systems from IUPUI in December, 2019. Prior to joining Polis, she worked for the IUPUI Campus Facility Services and the Indiana Hospital Association.  Melissa volunteers for the Sheltie Rescue of Central Indiana, serving as a foster home/intake coordinator and evaluating residential spaces before adopting dogs out.
