The SAVI community information system has been nominated for the Community Impact category of The Mira Awards. This award celebrates and thanks those who have championed and demonstrated genuine drive to improve the tech community and the careers and/or lives of people living and working in Indiana. The Mira Awards is the state’s largest and longest-running technology excellence and innovation recognition program and features an annual black-tie gala celebrating the “The Best of Tech in Indiana.” It is produced by TechPoint, the nonprofit, industry-led growth initiative for Indiana’s technology ecosystem. The program is presented by Eli Lilly and Company, Raytheon, and Salesforce.
“2019 was a landmark year for SAVI,” said Sharon Kandris, SAVI Director and Polis Center Associate Director. “We launched a new online interface and infrastructure to simplify access to data about places in Central Indiana. It features three new data tools: Community Profiles, Population Profiles, and Topic Profiles. These are powerful and easy to use, providing quick access to SAVI’s rich data. Because of these tools, organizations are able to understand their service area, assess needs, and identify resources. Users include health and human service agencies, state and local government, libraries, health organizations, community coalitions, neighborhood organizers and more. SAVI.org is making an impact on communities. Organizations make better decisions about services and programs and target resources where most needed, helping our most vulnerable populations in Central Indiana.”
Independent judging panels comprised of 48 independent subject matter experts evaluated and ranked the applications, selecting 129 companies, universities, organizations, cities and individuals to advance as nominees in 13 categories. Later this month, nominees will present their cases and be interviewed by judging panels, after which the judges will select the winners following deliberations. Winners will be announced Saturday, April 18, at the JW Marriott-Indianapolis.
“Our 2020 Mira Awards theme—‘Be Bold.’—is both a reflection of the growth and successes that the nominees achieved over the past year, as well as a call-to-arms for the tech community as a whole to shed those last remaining remnants of timidness or apprehension,” said Mike Langellier, president and CEO of TechPoint. “In the global competition for talent, capital and companies, Indiana is a serious and winning rival. We intend to use the Mira Awards platform to inspire the pursuit of big bets, major market opportunities, community commitments, rapid growth and ‘acquirer over acquired’ mentality.”
