The Polis Center offers student positions that provide an opportunity to put the informatics skills they are learning into practice via community-focused projects. Polis does a vast amount of information technology-driven work related to community engagement, public health, crisis management, and more. It is one of the premier applied research centers on campus and thus a great way to gain practical experience.
Students gain valuable skills they can apply when they enter the workforce having worked with Polis on community-based projects to build a range of technical and soft skills. Students help design, create, and test public-facing websites, data resources, and reports. They work in a team environment, building skills and utilizing various tools to make them successful during school and after graduation.
Desired skill sets include programming R, Python, MS SQL, data analysis, GIS, social media, visualizations, graphic design, and others, as individual projects require. Positions are in-office.
