Spirit & Place’s Civic Saturday program has received great press! Erin Kelly, the program host, is featured in the July 2 New York Times story, “Preaching Faith in Democracy,” about the Civic Saturday concept. Erin was part of the first training group and has hosted five events to date. According to Erin, “people need to listen to one another without trying to persuade anyone of anything or jump into policy debates. Anything that can help people, particularly right now, have better conversations is critical to the health of our democracy.” The July 3 article in Pattern magazine, “Civic Saturdays: A National Dialogue Series,” gives an overview of the Spirit & Place program, Erin’s training and effort to bring the event to Indianapolis, and her aspiration to develop a full day event of civic celebration. On July 18, WFYI aired the segment, “Civic Saturdays Bringing Strangers Together to Nurture Civic Spirit,” in which reporter Taylor Bennett spoke with Erin about the discussions. And, the July 18 Indianapolis Recorder newspaper story, “Civic Saturdays encourage honest discussions about complex issues,” promoted the July 20 event, “Optimism as Rebellion.”
